The Village

Birchover is a tiny village nestling among the hills in the beautiful Peak District National Park.  It has two fantastic pubs, the Druid Inn and the Red Lion Inn both serving good food.  The Red Lion Inn has a 30 ft. well inside the bar area covered with a thick glass top and behind the Druid Inn lies Rowtor Rocks, an area where the Druids supposedly practised their magic.  Caves, stairs and chambers are carved into the rocks which are popular with visitors.

The village is  surrounded by  a network of public footpaths across some of the most beautiful countryside in England.  It is within walking distance of Stanton Moor which contains the historic Nine Ladies Stone Circle and is approximately four miles from Haddon Hall (owned by the Duke of Rutland) and seven miles from Chatsworth House, the stately home of the Duke of Devonshire.  Bakewell (famous for its Bakewell puddings) and Monday open air market is five miles away and the spa town of Buxton 12 miles.  Matlock and Matlock Bath are both within 10 miles.

The small village church of St. Michael and all Angels is situated at the bottom end of the village as is the village hall (Reading Room).  There is a playing field in the village  with swings and climbing frame
